In the "before times," the Texas Fashion Collection at the University of North Texas was on our short list of places to tour ourselves, and perhaps to plan a small group tour at some point. Unfortunately, that won't be possible for some time. Fortunately though, the Collection has loaned some of its garments to NorthPark Center for an exhibition that is free and accessible to the public! The exhibition focuses on "at-home dress," and features comfortable, easy clothes that were worn for lounging, hosting and day-to-day indoor living. See it for yourself through June 6, 2021.

Liu Xiaodong's Borders, at the Dallas Contemporary, is a deep look at life along the US/Mexico border, presented from the artist's perspective while embedded in those communities. The oversized pieces are impressive, and the scenes convey subjects that seem to be at ease with the artist's lens, which translates to a comfortable and compelling intimacy that passes to the viewer. Borders is on view through May 2021. The Dallas Contemporary is open with timed reservations and health protocols. Exhibitions are free to the public, donations are accepted.

The Dallas Contemporary is exhibiting "i forgot their names and often can't remember their faces but remember their voices well," a career survey of acclaimed Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara, through August 2021. This large exhibition takes up about half of the Contemporary's physical space, and includes large, medium and small paintings and sculptures. The Dallas Contemporary recently re-opened to the public with timed reservations and other health protocols, and offers free admission, with donations accepted. We loved this exhibition and found that it was a compelling and interesting way to spend an afternoon looking at art in the Dallas Design District. Liu Xiaodong's "Borders," also on view, was amazing as well and deserves its own spotlight, which we will post soon.
